The lens industry has a high gross profit margin and high barriers to entry. Although Da Li Guang still holds the top spot in terms of shipment volume in recent years, with the successful establishment of domestic terminal brands in the global smartphone market, domestic lens manufacturers represented by Sunny and AAC Technologies have also risen rapidly as a result.

When organizing the monthly shipment data of camera lenses released by Xuri Big Data, the author found that the top three camera lens rankings last year were Dali Guang, Sunny Optics, and Herui. In terms of shipment volume, there is only a difference of 10KK between the first and second places.

In terms of monthly shipments, the gap between Da Li Guang and Sunny continues to narrow. From September to November, Sunny Optical's mobile phone lens shipments even surpassed Da Li Guang for three consecutive months.

Meanwhile, according to data statistics, there were about five domestic camera lens manufacturers that shipped over 200 million units last year.

If the entire optical market has seen a leap in value due to upgrades, the lens industry is telling a different story. With the increasing market share of domestic smartphones, a group of excellent companies have gradually emerged in the domestic mobile phone lens market.

From the current situation, the market position of mobile phone lens in Chinese Mainland has significantly improved. Although there are still some gaps among mobile phone lens manufacturers, the market share of a group of mobile phone lens manufacturers represented by Sunny and Raytheon Technology has rapidly expanded.

Last year, among mainland mobile phone lens manufacturers, Sunny Optics and AAC Technologies performed quite well. In terms of shipment volume, the shipment volume of Sunny Optical mobile phone lenses last year was about 951 million pieces, an increase of 343 million pieces from 608 million pieces in 2017.

It is understood that Sunny Optical's mobile phone lens customers include well-known mobile phone brands such as Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, etc. In fact, in addition to domestic brands, Sunny Optical's mobile phone lenses also entered Samsung's flagship model supply chain system last year.

In 2018, according to the Korean electronic news website Etnews, China's Sunny Optics will provide optical lenses for Samsung's flagship phone Galaxy S9, which can be regarded as the first time that Chinese optical lenses have been used for Samsung Electronics' flagship model.

Industry insiders are aware that Samsung has always used products produced by Korean manufacturers in high-end smartphones. In the past, Samsung's optical lenses were provided by Kolen, Sekonix, and Samsung Motors from South Korea. Samsung Electronics has repeatedly promoted the powerful camera function of the Galaxy S9, indicating that the high-quality optical lenses provided by China's Sunny Optics have been highly recognized by South Korea's Samsung, which has always had strict requirements for optical lenses.

Relying on a strong customer system, in terms of shipment volume, Sunny Optical's monthly shipment volume of mobile phone lenses exceeded 100 million in September and October, and achieved three consecutive months of monthly shipment volume surpassing that of Da Li Guang.

In addition to Sunny Optics, the performance of Ruisheng Technology's mobile phone lenses last year was also impressive. According to the annual report of Ruisheng Technology, the mobile lens business of Ruisheng Technology has penetrated into major smartphone customers as scheduled in 2018.

Some people may also be curious about how mobile phone lens manufacturers performed in terms of shipment volume last year? When calculating the monthly lens shipment volume of Xuri Big Data, the author found that the top three camera lens rankings for the whole year last year were Dali Guang, Sunny Optics, and Herui.

From the above table, it can be seen that last year, Da Li Guang ranked first in domestic shipments with 961 million camera lenses shipped, while Sunny Optics ranked second in China with 951 million lenses shipped; Herui ranks third in China with a shipment volume of 284 million camera lenses.

From the above, it can be found that in terms of shipment volume, there is only a difference of 10KK between Sunny and Dali Guang, but there is a significant gap between the third and second places.

In addition, statistics have found that the top 9 camera lens manufacturers in China include Taiwan's Dali, Sunny Optics, Ruisheng Technology, Xingjuyu, Herui, Huaxin, Xingbang, Shenzhen Dali, and Bawang Optics.

When searching for the 2017 performance report of Ruisheng Technology, the author found that the monthly shipment volume of Ruisheng Technology's plastic lenses had exceeded 10KK by the end of 2017, and as of the end of 2018, the monthly shipment volume of Ruisheng Technology had exceeded 20KK. Therefore, it can be seen that Ruisheng Technology's mobile phone lenses must be among the top nine.

Five companies shipped over 200 million pieces

As mentioned earlier, the rapid development of domestic smartphones has driven the growth of domestic camera lens manufacturers. When compiling ranking data, I found that five mobile phone lens manufacturers shipped over 200 million lenses last year.

According to statistical data, in addition to listed companies such as Daliguang and Sunny Optics, manufacturers that shipped over 200 million mobile phone lenses last year also included Herui, Xingjuyu, and Huaxin Optoelectronics.

The customer base determines the production capacity of mobile phone lenses. From the perspective of customer groups, Da Li Guang and Shun Yu Optics, which rank among the top in terms of shipment volume, have a wide customer base. They are basically linked to the growth of the entire industry and have a strong dependence on their main customers.

Daliguang has a greater dependence on Apple, Chinese brands, and Samsung, while Sunny Optics has a greater dependence on Samsung and Chinese brands.

Affected by the client, the shipment volume of Sunny Optical's mobile phone lenses increased by 343 million pieces compared to the same period last year, and the company's optical parts business revenue increased by about 1.721 billion yuan to 6.023 billion yuan last year.

Although Sunny Optical's optical parts business includes mobile phone lenses and car lenses, it was learned from Sunny Optical's annual report last year that the significant increase in revenue from Sunny Optical's optical parts business last year was also attributed to mobile phone lenses.

However, interestingly, when I checked the shipment volume of mobile phone lenses last year, I found that due to the concentration of the terminal market, mobile phone lens manufacturers have also undergone another reshuffle in the industry.

When collecting shipment data from some domestic mobile phone lens manufacturers, the author found that some manufacturers have clearly been squeezed out of the top 9.

On the contrary, some companies have successfully entered the first tier brand camp through their own strategies and products. The reshuffle of mobile lens manufacturers in 2019 may continue, but for mobile lens manufacturers, there are also hidden opportunities while reshuffled.
